PC-21 - Up-Front Control Panel

PC-21 - UFCPThe Up-Front Control Panel (UFCP) is a functional replica of the UFCP used in the PC-21 training aircraft, adapted to simulation requirements.

It comprises a accurately shaped housing and a control panel, both in terms of “Form and Function” as close as possible to the real aircraft.

The UFCP's keys, rotating knobs, indicating elements and displays are controlled by a built-in CAN interface node computer NECS (Network Extended Control System) with CANaerospace protocol. An integrated controller drives the various displays so that only alphanumerical data need to be sent to the unit via CAN bus.

The intensity of the key pad lighting, the rotating knob lighting and the displays can be dimmed separately.

UFCP Panel Items

Scratchpad

The UFCP scratchpad is a single-line Light Emitting Diode (LED) display with 32 alphanumerical segments.

In the simulation version the alphanumerical ASCII characters send via the CAN bus are indicated.

Master Mode Selector Keys  (MMS Keys)

The 12 MMS keys within the real aircraft are used to select the main operating modes of the UFCP.

In the simulation version an individual discrete key code is transmitted via the CAN bus when pressing any key.

Keypad

Within the real aircraft the 12 keys of the keypad are used to enter, edit or clear the scratchpad data.

In the simulation version an individual discrete key code is transmitted via the CAN bus when pressing any key.

Option Display Selector (ODS) Windows

Within the real aircraft the ODS windows display the sub-modes of the master mode functions.

In the simulation version the alphanumerical ASCII characters send via the CAN bus are indicated.

Option Display Selector (ODS) Keys

The six ODS keys positioned beside the ODS windows are used in the real aircraft to select and cycle the functions or sub-modes displayed in the ODS windows.

In the simulation version an individual discrete key code is transmitted via the CAN bus when pressing any key.

Rotary Control Knobs

In the real aircraft the rotary control knobs have the following functions:

  • UFCP brightness control
  • COM1 radio volume control
  • HUD brightness control
  • Intercom volume control
  • COM2 radio volume control

When operating one of the rotary control knobs of the UFCP replica an analogue value according to the current position of the respective rotary control knob is transmitted via the CAN bus.
